One acre equals exactly 43,560 square feet. That's roughly the size of a football field without the end zones (which is 48,000 sq ft). A quarter-acre lot, common in suburban neighborhoods, is 10,890 square feet.

Acres are used in the US and UK, while hectares are the metric standard used in most other countries. One hectare equals 2.471 acres, or about 10,000 square meters. One acre equals 0.4047 hectares.

Multiply the number of square meters by 10.764 to get square feet. For example, a 50 square meter apartment is about 538 square feet. To go the other way, multiply square feet by 0.0929.
